Our Tattoo Aftercare Philosophy
Nurse Mary J is formulated to promote healing by stopping the inflammation that causes scabbing and discomfort after tattooing. We provide deep moisturization and promote a healthy skin surface.
We NEVER use:
Alcohol Petroleum Products Parabens Dyes Fragrances Soap Wax Salt
and we NEVER test on animals!
Your new tattoo is a 2nd degree skin abrasion. Tattooing causes major skin irritation. Our body's natural reaction to being wounded this way is to try to redden, swell and weep in order to clear any bacteria and foreign material from the abrasion. This weeping not only pushes ink out of your tattoo, it also is what causes scabbing. Scabbing causes ink loss.
Calm the Inflammation first. Nurse Mary J is the first company who believes in stopping the inflammatory reaction before your ink is compromised by scabbing. Our tattoo aftercare lotion was formulated to soak into your skin immediately. We deliver the anti-inflammatory power of Hemp CBD to the second layer of your skin fast. Start to heal now.
Moisturize Correctly. Other Aftercare companies utilize petroleum products or waxes to create a moisture barrier on your skin. This method keeps the skin from breathing, so it's own fluids are retained. Nurse Mary J delivers moisturizing ingredients directly to the second layer of dermis, leaving your wound without a barrier between oxygen.
No thick barriers or skicky feel: We never want to leave a tacky film on your skin that will trap dirt and bacteria against your new tattoo. We also know that skin respiration is crucial for proper healing. Your skin must be able to both release moisture and have contact with oxygen in order to heal, so we avoid creating a barrier that stops that process.
Calm Skin: all of the active ingredients in Nurse Mary J have anti-inflammatory properties. We want you to have a more comfortable heal. We are committed to helping you experience less scabbing, itching and ink loss. Expect bolder, longer lasting color.

Nurse Mary J is anti-inflammatory in nature, and is intended for immediate use. Always wash hands and tattoo area prior to application.
If you are able, apply Nurse Mary J before your artist wraps your ink. Follow your artist's instructions for the plastic wrap, and begin to use Nurse Mary J Tattoo Aftercare immediately after your first wash, within 2-12 hours of getting tattooed. Waiting until the tattoo is a few days old will dramatically reduce the effectiveness of the product. Be sure your tattoo and hands are clean before application. Apply thinly, only enough to cover the tattoo. Product will absorb quickly.
Days 1-5 Apply 4-5 times daily
Days 6-14 Apply at least 3 times per day
Days 15-21 Apply at least once daily
Use enough product to cover your tattoo with a thin layer and leave a shine. It will absorb very quickly.
Tattoos in tight places, like armpits of inner thigh may require more applications. The same goes for thick skin like knees/elbows and skin that moves a lot like hands/feet. Apply as frequently as needed or desired.
Do not use in conjunction with other products. Nurse Mary J is known to be less effective when used with products containing petroleum or alcohol. Product will be less effective if not applied within the first 12 hours. Do not keep tattoo covered.
Our premier ingredient is Hemp Cannabidiol (CBD) derived from European Industrial Hemp plants. It is the most abundant NON-Psychotropic cannabinoid. It is fast becoming known as the leading medicinal consituant of Cannabis, and thanks to science the list of its benefits grows daily. We chose to use Hemp CBD for its strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and have found great success using it in tattoo aftercare because the reduction of inflammation typically leads to less scabbing during the healing process. Less scabbing means less itchyness and more ink retention.
Coconut Oil naturally has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties. It contains proteins that contribute to cellular health and tissue repair. There is also a small amount of naturally occuring vitamin E in coconut oil which fights free radicals and promotes skin smoothness.
Mango Seed Butter
Extracted from the kernel of the Mango fruit, Mango Seed Butter is a lightweight moisturizer that absorbs quickly into the skin. Another anti-inflammatory ingredient, Mango Seed Butter also contains antioxidant properties and can be helpful protecting against UV.
We chose Sea Plant, a kelp ingredient, because it is rich in iodine and minerals. It absorbs quickly and is thought to stimulate cellular circulation. It's also full of antioxidants which fight free radicals, one of skin's biggest enemmies. Like our other active ingredients, kelp has natural anti-inflammatory aspects.
Like all the other active ingredients in Nurse Mary J, Green Tea possesses potent anti-inflammatory properties but it also contains antibacterial and antimicrobial aspects. It has a high quotent of antioxidents that work to fight free radicals, and has been proven to mitigate damge done by UV.
